Short codes and pound(#) numbers

Short codes and pound numbers are special telephone numbers, much shorter than conventional numbers. This makes them easier to remember and quicker to dial.

It is important to know that landline phones can not dial short numbers, only mobile phones can.

Pound (#) numbers are preceded by the pound (#) symbol. Even though they are shorter then conventional phone numbers, and are often confused with short codes, pound numbers are a different technology.

Short codes are used to send and receive SMS, while pound numbers can also be dialed to make voice calls, much like 900 lines, but for mobile phones instead of landlines.
